身兼歌手、制作人和作者三种角色的Babyface，是90年代流行乐主要领域不可或缺的人物。他的演唱帮助R&B音乐重拾了往日流畅、敏感和都市吟唱的传统，他为其他歌手制作和创作的众多单曲同样大获成功，在90年代人们几乎找不到一个比他的成功更持久、更多才多艺的的金曲制作人。

　　1959年4月10日，原名肯尼斯·埃德蒙兹（Kenneth Edmonds）的Babyface出生在印第安纳波利斯，少年时代开始在当地一支R&B乐队中演出，他在布西·柯林斯（Bootsy Collins）的身边取下Babyface的昵称，后来加入了疯克乐队Manchild，录制了三张专辑。乐队解散后，80年代初期，Babyface与另一名成员安东尼奥·雷德（Antonio Reid）组建了一支都市疯克乐队Deele，推出了几首成绩相当不俗的打榜歌曲。同时他们开始为其他艺人制作、创作歌曲，《Girlfriend》、《Every Little Step》和《The Way You Love Me》等作品在流行和R&B排行榜上都表现不错。

　　虽然Babyface 1986年的个人专辑《Lovers》没有引起太多的关注，却标志着他单飞事业的开始。1989年的《Tender Lover》让他真正火了起来，唱片取得双白金的销量，《It's No Crime》、《Whip Appeal》等四首单曲打入流行排行榜。同时Babyface的词曲创作事业也是蒸蒸日上，《End of the Road》成为流行史上蝉联最久的冠军歌曲之一；他制作的《保镖》（The Bodyguard）电影原声带获得格莱美年度专辑提名，此外他还与席琳·迪昂（Celine Dion）、玛丽亚·凯莉（Mariah Carey）、玛丽·布莱奇（Mary J. Blige）等大牌歌星有过合作。

　　1991年作为歌手的Babyface虽然只发行了一张混合专辑《A Closer Look》，却仍然获得事业上的重大突破。1993年专辑《For the Cool in You》的销量超越了《Tender Lover》，达到三重白金，其中的《When Can I See You Again》为他赢得第一尊格莱美R&B最佳男歌手奖。1995年，影片《待到梦醒时分》（Waiting to Exhale）原声带成为他音乐事业中又一次重要成功，身兼制作人的他不但为影片配乐，几乎所有的歌曲都是由他一人捉刀；同年，他赢得了格莱美最佳制作人奖。次年，他为埃里克·克莱普顿（Eric Clapton）监制的《Change the World》获得格莱美年度唱片奖。

　　受到《待到梦醒时分》成功的鼓舞，1997年，Babyface和妻子特蕾西（Tracey Edmonds）成立了自己的电影制片公司，拍摄出广受好评的都市家庭喜剧《Soul Food》，策划和原声带自然又是Babyface一人包揽。1998年，他为动画片《埃及王子》（The Prince of Egypt）创作了歌词，尽管电影占用了他不少时间，他却丝毫没有放松音乐上的努力，分别于97和98年发行了MTV不插电专辑和次年的《Christmas With Babyface》。此后他在制作和创作领域十分活跃，但是作为歌手沉寂了几年。2000年，Epic发行的Babyface最优秀的金曲合集，标志着两者合作关系的终结。2001年Babyface发行了新专辑《Face2Face》，并为影片《猫女乐队》（Josie & the Pussycats）制作了朋克/流行原声带，2005年7月他发行了回归传统的《Grown & Sexy》。
